If you'd like to go shopping, you will have many options in Downtown Montreal. Numerous trendy malls and shops are in close proximity to the hotel.

We suggest that you visit Ste-Catherine street between St-Laurent boulevard and Guy street (see map). St-Catherine is the street where most of Montreal's trendy shops are located. To get there, turn right on Bleury street when you exit the hotel. Follow Bleury street (you are going north) until you reach Ste-Catherine, which is a very short walk away (map). The section of Ste-Catherine west of Guy doesn't have many fashionable boutiques, and the section of Ste-Catherine street east of St-Laurent is not in a very desirable part of town.

A few big shopping malls line Ste-Catherine street, including the Eaton Center (map), Les Promenades de la Cathedrale (map), Place Montreal Trust (map) and Les Cours Mont-Royal (map). There is a large department store, Hudson's Bay, at the corner of Ste-Catherine street and Union avenue (map). If you're looking for upscale brands, visit Ogilvy (map), which is a store where you will find boutiques selling high-end brands; it is located at the corner of Ste-Catherine street and De La Montagne street (map).

Another large mall can be found at Place Ville-Marie (map). Place Ville-Marie is located south of the other shopping malls, and can be accessed through University, Mansfield and Cathcart streets.

Downtown malls generally have food courts with many restaurants.

One of downtown's most popular fashion store (for men and women) is Simons, located at 977 Ste-Catherine west (map). Please note that this store closes earlier than most other stores on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (6 PM).

Most boutiques located in the shopping centers listed above are fashion-oriented. If you are looking for electronics, we suggest that you visit Future Shop, (map) which you will find at 470 Ste-Catherine street west. If you go there, feel free to visit St-James' church, which is one of Montreal's most remarkable and beautiful buildings, and located right in front of Future Shop, between St-Alexandre's and City Councillors' streets.

Sherbrooke street has many exclusive and upscale stores and art galleries. To reach Sherbrooke street, follow the same itinerary (map) than you would use to reach Ste-Catherine street; turn right when you exit the hotel and continue on Bleury street. Follow Bleury street and Du Parc avenue (it changes names) which go north, and turn left on Sherbrooke street when you reach it (map). Montreal's most exclusive store is probably Holt Renfrew (map), which is located at 1300 Sherbrooke street west.

Two large bookstores are open downtown, Chapters (map) at 1171 Ste-Catherine street west, and Indigo (map) at 1500 McGill College avenue. Indigo and Chapters have different names, but they are both part of the same chain.

Fine cigars, including cuban cigars, are sold in many places in Montreal. Be aware that some of downtown's cigar stores have prices that are much higher than what you would pay elsewhere in the city. A wide selection of cigars -at reasonable prices- can be had at "H Poupart" (map), located downtown at 1474 Peel street (514-842-5794); see this article. Another source for cigars is Pat & Robert (map), which is located outside the downtown core at 1474 Ontario street east. Pat & Robert (514-522-8534) has a selection of hundreds of fine cigars, but since it is not downtown, you would most likely have to use the Metro or a car to get there.
